A standing desk only helps if you set it up correctly. Standing badly for eight hours can cause just as much strain as sitting badly. This guide covers the numbers that matter, from desk height to monitor distance, plus the movement habits that actually protect your body.

Standing is not the goal, movement is

The research consensus is that the healthiest posture is your next one. Standing rigidly all day trades back stiffness for foot, knee, and lower-limb fatigue. Aim to alternate: a common starting rhythm is roughly 20 minutes sitting, 8 minutes standing, and 2 minutes of moving around, adjusted to what feels good. Getting the height right
